Bhubaneswar: On Friday, police apprehended an OMFED booth owner along with an accomplice for allegedly attacking a BMC official during an eviction operation earlier in the week.
According to Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Trupti Ranjan Nayak of Badagada police station, the civic employee sustained injuries to his arm after being pursued and assaulted by the suspects. The individuals involved have been identified as Chaturbhuja Behera, 38, from Nuasahi, and Rakesh Kumar Jena, 35, residing in Majhi Sahi.
Chaturbhuja operates an OMFED booth located near the Daya west canal road. The confrontation took place around 12:10 PM on Wednesday when BMC Enforcement Inspector Sanjay Kumar Swain and his team were inspecting illegal structures for potential eviction.
When Sanjay requested Chaturbhuja to present the necessary documentation for his booth, he and Rakesh launched a brutal attack on the BMC officials. While other team members managed to escape, Sanjay was violently pursued and assaulted by the two men, who also issued threats as they fled the scene.
The Badagada Police have charged the suspects under multiple sections of the BNS and presented them in a local court on Friday for remand.
